Mia's 51st Quilt Square: Dayton, Ohio

My first quilt square and wish representing the police department. It's from Shirley who is a detective in the Domestic Violence Unit. She sent a very pretty fabric with dragonflies, bees and pretty flowers. Her wish card is very creative. Notice the little badge sticker right in the center. It reads "Life is not counted by the breaths we take ... but by the moments that take our breath away." I love that quote and couldn't agree more. Her wish says "Mia and Krista, may your lives together have many breathtaking moments." Beautiful!

Thanks Shirley!

Mia's 50th Quilt Square: Lake Tahoe, Nevada

Woo Hoo! Fifty squares! I'm halfway there.

This is from a fellow blogger and single mom-to-be Paulette who lives in Lake Tahoe, Stateline, Nevada. She sent a beautiful fabric that reminds me of water. Her wish is very appropriate in representing her lifestyle. She's an avid outdoors woman who's very athletic. She skis, hikes, and rides trails on her mountain bike. All after overcoming a near crippling injury to her back. She is inspiring! Paulette is also in my June 06 DTC group and is awaiting her daughter who will be named Annalise. Her blog is called Love You Forever. Her wish reads "May you always know the beauty of the mountains, lakes and streams, have wagons of wishes filled with dreams and see eyes through the life of a child. God bless."

Thanks Paulette!

Mia's 49th Quilt Square: Barrie, Ontario, Canada

More Canadian June Bugs. They're in my June 06 DTC group. This is from the Merritt family of Barie, Ontario, Canada. Their wish is actually a Chinese proverb that says "A smile will gain you ten years of life."

Thanks Merritt Family!

Mia's 48th Quilt Square: Beverly, Massachusetts

This one came from my blogger buddies, Amy & Ruby. Amy is another single mom who adopted Ruby last year. They live in Beverly, Massachusetts. Check out their blog at Ruby In Her Own Time. They sent a beautiful asian inspired fabric showing children playing. Their wish for Mia reads "My wish for you is to always remember that love, not bloodline, makes a parent." They also included a photo of them opening presents on Ruby's 2nd birthday which was Sept 7th. That is also the 1 yr anniversary of Amy's referral. She got Ruby's pics and info on Ruby's first birthday. How cool is that!?

Thanks Amy & Ruby!

Their card says "Twinkle twinkle tiny light, little eyes that shine so bright, a precious baby from heaven above, fills our hearts with so much love." They also wrote "Best wishes for as many blessings as there are stars in the sky!" The fabric ties into the theme with cute little stars on it.

Thanks Wendy and John!

Mia's 40th Quilt Square: Dayton, Ohio

We had another quilt square making get together at Lisa's house on Saturday, September 9th. Lisa is my best friend. Peyton, her daughter, is in the yellow shirt. T.T. is behind her with Lisa across and then Chris, Lisa's mom. They all sat down and put their creative talents to work. As you can see by how hard they're working, they really got into it. T.T.'s 7 yr old son, Drew, also made Mia a quilt square. Scroll down to see the finished products.

This is from Lisa. I love this square. Not just because it's from someone who will be very important in Mia's life or because it's my favorite colors (love the camo). But because it includes this quote, which is so ironic considering it's the exact same sentiments that I expressed recently on my blog in remembering the anniversary of my illness and recovery. I guess she knows me...maybe better than I thought. :)

"The only way to live is to accept each minute as an unrepeatable miracle, which is exactly what it is: A miracle and unrepeatable." ~Storm Jameson. Her wish for Mia reads "We have all been blessed to the gift of being here on earth, so remember to live your life in celebration of that gift. Promise me to never regret any decision or path you may choose and remember to learn something each day from your decisions and to NEVER live in regrets. I love you, Auntie Lisa"

I love it Lisa... and I love you, too.

Mia's 39th Quilt Square: Dayton, Ohio

This was made by Lisa's mom, Chris. Chris is like a second mom to me. She'll be Mia's surrogate grandma, too.

I love this fabric. It's so approproate that she made this during the weekend that we are remembering the 5 year anniversary of 9-11. This is a date in our country's history that will never be forgotten. She included the serenity prayer. Chris said this is her favorite prayer and it also is so completely fitting on this tragic day.

"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;
The courage to change the things I can and wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path."

Thanks Chris! This is definitely one of my favorite squares. I love it!

Mia's 38th Quilt Square: Dayton, Ohio

This was made by my close friend, TT, over at Lisa's house during the big square making party. She is a big Elvis fan. She even named her dog after him. So it was appropriate that she found some fabric of "The King". Her wish includes this quote "The love of a child makes you change and become all that they will aspire to. The blessing of a child makes you appreciate life and hold on to those little hands that God has given to you." ~Lisa M.Billings. She also included a cute little sticker that says "Blessed are the children.... for theirs is a world of wonder."

I love it T! Thanks!

Mia's 37th Quilt Square: Dayton, Ohio

This was made for me by 7 yr old, Drew. He's the son of my friend, TT. This fabric is so cute. Drew picked it out for Mia because he loves the movie "Cars." He made sure to cut the quilt square to include the police car. How appropriate. His wish says "Good luck in your life."

Thanks Drew!

Mia's 36th Quilt Square: Washington D.C.

The first quilt square from someone in my family! An actual blood relative. Wow! (Yeah I come from a long line of procrastinators.) This is from my cousin, Alicia, who lives in Washington D.C. with her son, Roger. Alicia is also a single-mom-by-choice to an adopted son. We have that in common now. She included a pretty pink floral fabric. Her wish reads "May you always be surrounded by loving family, loyal friends, and lots of laughter."

Thanks Alicia!

Anyway, this is from fellow June Bugs, Debbie and Shane Gallant. Check out their blog at Take Me To China. More happy bug fabric. Their card includes a poem titled "One Perfect Baby". It reads "Two little feet so tender and sweet that have walked with the angels on heavenly streets. Ten little fingers and ten little toes with every new day continue to grow. One little mouth that sings to our Lord. And two little ears to hear His word. One perfect baby for us to love, with wisdom and guidance from our Father above." ~Kelly Maloney

Thanks Debbie and Shane!

But those who make their journey home across time and miles, growing within the hearts of those who wait to love them, are carried on the wings of destiny and placed among us by God's very own hands" ~Kristi Larson. That is beautiful.

Thanks Robin and Marty!

She also wrote "My prayer for you is hope, peace, and happiness through Him who gave you life!"

Thanks Stacey!

Mia's 31st Quilt Square: Independence, Missouri

From Belinda and Mike Snelgrove of Independence, Missouri. They included my favorite Chinese proverb "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." That is how I started my journey to Mia. I also included this proverb in my very first blog post. Their wish also reads "Cherish yesterday. Live today. Dream for tomorrow." That ladybug button tied on with a ribbon is so adorable! The Snelgroves are in the June06 DTC group.

Thanks Belinda and Mike!

Thanks German Family!

Mia's 29th Quilt Square: Phoenix, Arizona

This from Jason, Trina, and Trevor Cook of Phoenix, Arizona. They're also in the June06 DTC group. They sent some cute fabric with sheep and the lyrics of one of their family's favorite songs. It's called "Skid-a-marink a Dink". This song brought back a sweet little memory for me of my god-daughter, Ashlee'. When she was about 2 she used to watch a show where they sang this song. I can't remember the show but I remember this song. Their wish for Mia is "a life full of love."

Thanks Cook Family!

Dancing is a language you can speak with everyone." Very cute!

Mia's 24th Quilt Square: Longview, Washington

More June Bugs. This is from Beri and Mike Jenkins of Longview, Washington. The fabric is a beautiful purple floral print. They included a touching poem titled "How Could You Know?" by Kris Laughlin. It reads "As you lay sleeping far away as still as you could be. How could you know the joy today this photo brings to me? A few short weeks and you'll be mine, and "I" will soon be "We". How could you know the love I feel? It's something you can't see. So have sweet dreams, my precious babe. Sleep well and tenderly. Some say that you're the lucky one. How could you know it's me?" I love that! Their wish for Mia is "a life filled with love, challenges and accomplishment."

Thanks Mike and Beri!
